Family Task Force 48
A note from the family.
“There are very few opportunities in life that leave a lasting impact on an entire family, and this was undoubtedly one of them.
After nearly 20 years of active-duty military life, Big Sky Bravery gave our family something we didn’t even realize we were missing—the opportunity to simply be together.
From the moment we arrived, every detail had already been taken care of. We didn’t have to plan, coordinate, or think about what came next—we simply got to show up. For military families, life is often filled with constant change, uncertainty, and the invisible mental load of always preparing for what’s next. Whether it’s a deployment, TDY, training, or the demands of everyday life, there’s rarely a moment when your mind is truly quiet. Big Sky Bravery gave us the rare gift of setting that weight down.
Each night, we slept with the windows open. It may seem like such a small thing, but it became symbolic of the entire week. There was a calmness we aren’t accustomed to—a quiet that allowed us to truly rest. For once, our minds weren’t racing through schedules, responsibilities, or preparing for what came next. We simply listened to the sounds outside, breathed a little deeper, and enjoyed being together. In nearly 20 years of military life, that kind of peace has been incredibly rare, and it’s something our family will carry with us long after this trip.
The greatest gift of all was watching our boys. They had uninterrupted time with both of their parents—time to laugh, explore, try new adventures, and simply enjoy being together. As parents, we spend so much time trying to create meaningful experiences for our children, but this week reminded us that what they treasure most isn’t an elaborate vacation or exciting activities. It’s simply having Mom and Dad fully present. Watching the joy on their faces all week long is a memory I’ll carry with me forever.
We came home with unforgettable memories, but more importantly, we came home feeling renewed. Big Sky Bravery didn’t just give us an incredible trip—it gave us the opportunity to reconnect as a family, reset our hearts and minds, and remember what matters most.
To everyone who pours their time, resources, and hearts into Big Sky Bravery, thank you. What you provide goes far beyond a vacation. You give military families something that cannot be bought: uninterrupted time together, peace of mind, and the chance to reconnect without the constant weight of military life. The impact of this week will stay with our family for years to come, and we will forever be grateful for this incredible gift.”
