A Note From the Task Force Director

Patriots,

It was an honor to lead this Task Force alongside six unique and highly regarded individuals. Throughout the week, I was constantly reminded how fortunate we are to have them standing at the tip of the spear for us. Their devotion to our Nation and to each other is truly unparalleled.

Watching each person work through what was on their mind, whether through quiet reflection or through conversations to gain new perspectives, was something special.

Being “escorted” down the river in kayaks by Ed and the Canyon Adventures crew was a highlight for the team. Spending time with Ed and experiencing the river's beauty, both above and below the surface, was unforgettable. Our time at LMR brought its own joy: from the guys getting their first rodeo experience to a recipient “winning” the tag pull on the cow, these are memories that will be cherished.

Through all of this, the conversations with recipients who were further along in their careers offered deep and meaningful reflections on who they are, what they want to move toward, and what truly drives them.

I am continually amazed and privileged to lead a Task Force. But more than that, I am in awe of the selfless dedication each of you shows, the devotion you bring to people you may never meet, yet care for deeply because you understand the impact of what we do. You give your time and energy to ensure their happiness and health are restored, nurtured, and protected.

Thank you—truly—for that.

“This past week was well beyond my expectations. From the moment I shook Jeremy's hand upon arrival at Bozeman International Airport, I truly felt as though I was the recipient of an amazing award. An award I didn't earn by doing anything specific, outside of service to my country.

My service has spanned almost 25 years and consisted of a blurring number of operational and training deployments across the globe. We tend not to slow down, not to breathe, not to reset.

This week at Big Sky, I was finally able to do this. Between incredible outdoor activities, world-class camaraderie, unbelievable food and lodging, and our BSB mentor/leader, Jeremy, and two awesome volunteers, this was a week I will never forget or take for granted.

The intentional sense of gratitude poured on each of us recipients was insane.

Jeremy and his volunteers truly made us each feel like a special individual, not just another rank and file from our units.

I am leaving Big Sky with a different outlook on what it means to serve; more proud of what I have done, and more energized as I move forward.

As I weighed the impact of this week, I have also realized I need to be more intentional about my gratitude and appreciation towards my colleagues, friends, and most importantly, my family.

This will absolutely make me a better Operator, friend, father, and husband moving forward.

Thank you, BSB, for honoring me and for pulling me into your family and for helping me slow down and reset. Blessed to have had this experience!”

“Spending five days at Big Sky Bravery was truly a transformative experience.

I had heard from numerous coworkers that the program was incredible, but I never expected it to have the impact on me that it did.

From the moment I received an email confirming my flight tickets and week’s itinerary, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude, knowing that people I had never met had taken the time to plan this entire week for our Task Force. That gratitude only grew once I arrived and connected with my fellow Task Force members and the incredible volunteers and donors who made such an unforgettable week possible.

This experience gave me something I haven’t had in over a decade, the chance to fully reset, step away from the demands of work, and be completely present in the moment.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who is part of BSB. Their generosity, thoughtfulness, and commitment left a lasting impression on me, reminding me that there are people who sincerely care about us and what we do. That reminder has given me renewed strength and hope, which I will carry with me at work and home. Thank you for making such a lasting difference!”

“I feel extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to spend an amazing week with Jeremy and the Big Sky Bravery team. It gave me a much-needed respite from the high-paced environment of SOF operations. It helped me consider my own mental and emotional health. It facilitated a long overdue reconnection with my own self, which sometimes is lost amongst the highest pressures of work and family life.

Big Sky Bravery allowed me, for the first time in 10 years, to put myself first, and I am deeply grateful for that. I feel refreshed, revitalized, and ready to get back after it!

Thank you, BSB.”

“BSB was simply amazing. The ability to spend that time with fellow warriors put so many things into perspective for me

- We are not alone as warriors, even when we hang up the guns someday

- We all have residue from the things we have experienced- but there are ways to work through them all

- Most importantly, how to be present and at peace when home with loved ones

I will remember and cherish this trip and incredible opportunity for the rest of my life.

Words can’t express my gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who made this happen.”

“I want to thank Big Sky Bravery for allowing me to step away from a grind and giving me a space to re-center my focus on what’s most important to me: relationships. BSB also gave me a space to unpack some things I’ve been mentally carrying for a long time. It was powerful to share camaraderie with a group of people who actually carried the same weight on their shoulders. I didn’t walk away with a much lighter load, but I walked away with confidence that I could carry that load further because we’re all in it together.

There’s great power in this organization.

Not only do we get to come together with our teammates for a unique experience, but we get a first-hand glimpse of how much support we have from some of the finest citizens in our Nation.

The overall experience is life-changing!”
