TF167 | Big Sky, MT
A note from the Task Force Director.
Despite historic January winter storms that shut down much of the East Coast and disrupted air travel nationwide, this Task Force still came together. Through determination, flexibility, and an incredible amount of behind-the-scenes coordination, we were able to get three recipients safely to Montana ahead of the storm. This would not have been possible without the patience of our recipients and the exceptional dedication of the Big Sky Bravery staff, who navigated countless flight changes and travel arrangements to make this mission happen.
This Task Force was led by some of the finest Americans and volunteers Big Sky Bravery has to offer: Mark Bradford, Erik Aasheim, Dave Kraft, and Jesse Barnes. Each of these men exemplifies the character, principles, and core values that define BSB. They brought unique skill sets and unwavering commitment to ensure our recipients received the highest-quality experience possible throughout the week.
Once everyone arrived in Montana, the momentum never slowed. The week was filled with laughter, shared stories, and meaningful connections—capped off by an incredible powder day near the end of the trip. The group also enjoyed unforgettable meals and experiences, from Dina Aasheim’s legendary bison lasagna to a sleigh-ride dinner, and even a true Montana-style crab boil in the back of a snowmobile shop. Because the recipients arrived a day early, they were able to enjoy an extra day on the slopes, warming up their legs for the adventures that followed. During our snowmobiling excursion, volunteer and guide Mark Bradford surprised the group with secret powder stashes he had saved just for this Task Force.
Though the days were packed and the week flew by, the memories and bonds formed will last a lifetime.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the donors who made this Task Force possible. Your generosity and love for this country—and for the men, women, and families who serve it—are the foundation of everything we do. We are also profoundly thankful to the families who supported their loved ones in taking this time away to rest, reconnect, and recharge. Weeks like this are truly special, especially when spent alongside individuals who sacrifice so much in service to our nation.
Thank you for making moments like these possible.
Sincerely,
Chris Voigts

“The week in Big Sky was certainly more than just skiing, snowmobiling, and hunting. It was also about a moment to reset and establish connections amongst new friends. Having multiple days at Big Sky on the slopes and going deep in the backcountry snowmobiling, the week was simultaneously challenging and fulfilling. This trip was definitely a chance for us all to make and establish new bonds and friendships, slow down and simply enjoy the moment, and all that Big Sky has to offer. This was truly a trip to remember and one that has and will continue to have a dramatic impact on myself and everyone in the TF.”

“My week with Big Sky Bravery was nothing short of spectacular.
Having been on countless deployments in the last few years, it was refreshing to have a trip that focused on individual rejuvenation.
Since the moment I arrived at the airport, the friendly staff and volunteers made me feel like a VIP. Staying in a beautiful home directly across from Big Sky Resort gave us wonderful views and easy access to everything.
The country landscape of Montana is the perfect setting for a ‘guys’ trip.’ With the meals all provided, by way of volunteers cooking or an amazing sleigh ride dinner by kerosene lamp. The days filled with skiing and snowmobiling with expert guides challenged us every bit.
The thing that set this trip apart was the conversations, being brought together with men who live the challenge of service in special operations and are willing to open up about the hard parts you can't share with coworkers or family.
Thank you to the donors, staff, and volunteers who made this possible. Your contribution to our community and families comes with great appreciation.”

“This week at BSB exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t have asked for a better or more memorable time. Being able to unplug is something I rarely get to do, and it meant more than I can express. Between skiing in an incredible place, to hiking through mountains, an amazing snowmobile day, and the hospitality shown from the volunteers, I will never forget this week. I am truly thankful for the experience and am honored to have had the opportunity to join the BSB community.”
