Trae McInroe | Volunteer Spotlight

I have 13 years of service in the Army Reserve. It felt important to me to find a way to volunteer for people I can relate to. People who really deserve it.

Big Sky Bravery is built on the heart and grit of our volunteers—the unsung heroes behind every life we impact. Our monthly Volunteer Spotlight honors their selfless dedication and gives you a chance to meet the remarkable people who help make our mission possible.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN a VOLUNTEer with BIG SKY BRAVERY?

8-9 years working with the snowmobile program and 3 official years as a volunteer.

What made you want to get involved with Big Sky Bravery?

I have 13 years of service in the Army Reserve. It felt important to me to find a way to volunteer for people I can relate to. People who really deserve it. Beyond that, the folks who run and organize BSB are all fantastic.

Can you share a moment that has had the most significant impact on you since joining Big Sky Bravery?

Sitting around a campfire at our elk camp with Ed Hake and a BSB Task Force. We shared laughs, hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Some excellent steaks and wisdom from older generations to help us all become better men.

How has Big Sky Bravery's motto “Give More Than You Take”  influenced your mindset or actions?

In an organization with the right priorities, the “give more than you take” mindset is prevalent and carries weight. Everyone from the top down believes it and moves forward with reinforced enthusiasm for the job at hand. Personally, it is easy to give time in that environment.

Is there anything you see differently or appreciate more deeply since your time with the SOF community?

The most common story/theme I hear from the SOF guys is how important time with family is. I have a wife and a 5-month-old son. Every bit of spare time I have, I double down on trying to spend it with them and be “home.”

Where did you grow up, and what kind of work fills your days when you're not volunteering with us?

I grew up in Spokane, WA. Moved to Montana in 2013.

I run a chimney sweep/inspection business and guide elk hunts every fall, and still an Army Reservist at JBLM in Civil Affairs.

When I'm not serving with Big Sky Bravery, I'm most passionate about…

Hunting, fishing, horses, snowmobiling…anything outdoors. And my kiddo now takes the cake.

Is there a particular quote or saying that guides or inspires you?

“Moderation in all things.” - From my Mother.

“It takes a man to get out of bed in the morning.” - From my Father.
