THIS MONTH’S VOLUNTEER: Matt Hoskins

BIG SKY BRAVERY WOULDN'T BE WHAT IT IS TODAY WITHOUT THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION OF OUR VOLUNTEERS. TO CELEBRATE THEIR GENEROSITY & INTRODUCE YOU TO SOME INCREDIBLE INDIVIDUALS, WE INVITE YOU TO READ OUR MONTHLY VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING FOR BIG SKY BRAVERY

In 2020, I began my Big Sky Bravery volunteer journey, a decision shaped by the poignant loss of a close friend to suicide. Motivated by his dedication to the organization, I felt a strong draw to step in and fill the void he left behind. Volunteering became my means of honoring his memory while contributing to a mission that holds deep personal significance.

WHY DO YOU VOLUNTEER FOR BIG SKY BRAVERY?

Approaching my fourth Task Force this winter, I draw strength from transforming loss into a positive force, returning each year to ensure those who put their lives on the line feel genuine gratitude and respect from those they protect. Spending time with elite Operators is incredibly humbling, gaining insight into their lives.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST IMPACTFUL MOMENT FOR YOU SINCE BEING INVOLVED WITH BIG SKY BRAVERY?

The nightly conversations stand out as consistent highlights, fostering honest and sincere connections. Maintaining relationships with past recipients brings me great pride and fulfillment.

HOW DOES OUR MOTTO “GIVE MORE THAN YOU TAKE” APPLY TO YOUR LIFE?

Giving more than I take is a core belief, recognizing that freedom isn’t free and shouldn’t be taken for granted. This is my modest way of repaying those who have sacrificed so much. I highly value the profound experiences Big Sky Bravery provides recipients, cultivating new life-long friendships with remarkable individuals.

WHAT JOB TITLE DO YOU HOLD OUTSIDE OF BEING A BIG SKY BRAVERY VOLUNTEER?

Outside of volunteering, I’m shifting from a 20+ year career in civil construction to a sales role at Northwest Pipe Fittings.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE, “WHEN I’M NOT VOLUNTEERING WITH BSB, YOU’LL FIND ME…”

…spending time with my family, whether skiing, riding dirt bikes, camping, or cheering on my two sons in hockey or football, all in the extraordinary place we call home.
