FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GET TO KNOW US MORE!

  • How are recipients selected?

Since its inception, Big Sky Bravery prioritizes the development of long-term and trustworthy relationships with leading members of various SOF units. The fulfillment of all Task Force slots are filled by those individuals as they know who needs our program most. Big Sky Bravery is not involved in the selection of recipients.

Are you accepting new organizations to work with/give back to?

If you are representing an organization that falls under the SOF umbrella, please contact Jeremy Keller, Chief Strategy Officer, at jeremy@bigskybravery.org for further discussion.

Can I nominate my spouse, friend, or family member?

Big Sky Bravery relies on internal partnerships to fill all Task Force slots. Recipient selection is done by the respected representation of each unit. For more information, please contact Jeremy Keller, Chief Strategy Officer, at jeremy@bigskybravery.org.

Is there ongoing support after a Task Force?

One of the main components of a Task Force is lifelong support, friendship, and mentorship. The support for our recipients lasts long after their week in Montana. In addition to the lifelong volunteer/recipient friendship, we offer certain amenities for alumni of our programs. The purpose of this offering is to help our recipients share the healing aspects of Montana with those they love most, increasing the ripple effect of our mission.

Does BSB give back to Special Forces?

At this time, Big Sky Bravery does not give back to those who fall under the Special Forces Command. We are partnered with specific units in the Special Operations Community.

What happens on a Task Force?

Our Task Forces consist of 6 days/5 nights of high-adrenaline activities and nightly discussions in Montana’s restorative surroundings. This may include but is not limited to the following activities: skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, backpacking, fishing, horseback riding, side-by-sides, clay shooting, camping, hiking, and more. At the end of each fun-filled day, Task Force members share a meal together and participate in thoughtful, reflective discussions.

  • How are volunteers selected?

We are constantly striving to have the best volunteers. It is crucial that we do our best, as these organizations are sending their best. For this reason, we created a three-and-a-half-month selection process. Volunteers must complete the selection process, culminating with an interview process with the Volunteer Advisory Board. The first step in becoming a BSB volunteer is to fill out the volunteer inquiry form on our website.

    What is the volunteer commitment?

The amount of time and emotional capacity required from a Big Sky Bravery volunteer cannot be measured. The heart and soul of this organization is the volunteer/recipient relationship, and the quality of our programs is dependent on the relationships that continue long after the conclusion of the Task Force. At a minimum, volunteers should be able to commit 160 hours per year. This includes (1) full week on a Task Force, as well as additional volunteer hours at Big Sky Bravery events.

    What volunteer opportunities exist?

For more information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Dave Cohen, Chief Program Officer, at blake@bigskybravery.org.
