TF154 | Big Sky, MT
A note from the Task Force Director…
TF154 Recap
We had an incredible week with five outstanding men — sharing experiences, growing together, and recharging in the Montana mountains.
Trust & Reflection
Every night, we gathered. No phones, no distractions, no BS. Just honest conversations about life, service, struggles, and what’s next. These talks cut through surface-level chatter and reminded us we’re not walking this road alone. That honesty built trust quickly — and a brotherhood that will last long after Montana.
Adventure & Growth
The week wasn’t just about talking; it was about doing. We embraced “firsts” — the LMR Rodeo (buckle check), fly fishing the Madison, swimming in the cold Gallatin, and SxS rides through Big Sky country. Each moment pulled us out of our comfort zones. Those small wins accumulated and shifted our perspective — proof that growth happens step by step.
Volunteer Impact
Randy and Kevin set the bar high and clearly exceeded it. They gave more than they took — present at every event, every meal, and every late-night talk. Their steady support kept the week running smoothly.
Thank You
None of this would have been possible without our donors. Your support makes these life-changing experiences possible — and the impact is real. THANK YOU for your kindness, your belief, and your commitment.
We all left Montana tired, grateful, and ready for what’s next.
With gratitude,

“Service to the nation is arguably the most righteous thing a person can do.
Although service is rewarding work, it comes with many sacrifices - particularly, toward yourself and family.
The longer we serve, the more sacrifice becomes a way of life, so much that we start subordinating ourselves, our worth, and even our existence to the mission. The distinction between mission and identity becomes blurred, and this evolution doesn’t occur overtly; it is silent.
In SOF, especially, our identities become the mission.
Big Sky Bravery pulls this reality to the surface. A gentle gut punch with a dose of gratitude is what makes each Task Force special. BSB made me stare at my truth, and it provided a refuge with lifelong friends to overcome whatever lies ahead. I am an ambassador of this program! Well done!”

“The impact of Big Sky Bravery is immense.
My short week as a TF154 member, I learned a great deal about myself and my teammates. There were 3 things that had a transformative impact on me: (1) Our nightly reflection questions, (2) Exposure to new things, and (3) Volunteer involvement.
Nightly reflection - This drove vulnerability and connection between each TF member, and most notably, myself. Our reflection sessions built our bonds—authentically. We wrestled with ourselves and we got to provide clarity for one another. We learned that we are in this life together. No singleton mindset — together.
New things - This took each of us out of our comfort zones and forced us to learn new things. Learning new things forces us to think differently. I call this “mental disruption.” It’s healthy. I’ve never been to a rodeo or fly fishing. Experiencing these two things gave me a different outlook on life.
Volunteer involvement - We have been volunteers for years - in serving our nation. Meeting and witnessing Shane, Randy, and Kevin volunteer for us was a fascinating concept. I appreciated their conviction throughout the week. I have a deep respect for what they do. I have heard ‘thank you for your service’ many times throughout my career. For the first time, I am saying this to people who have never served in the military. To all volunteers, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
Thank you all!”

“Words can not describe how incredible this week has been. I want to take this moment to thank the organization for allowing me to participate in your program. It was much needed, and I found it very therapeutic - it allowed me to connect with nature, myself, and my fellow servicemembers. It helped me take a pause and decompress, something that I usually have difficulty doing.
All of this allowed us to have candid conversations about our service and personal lives, and I think helped us all deal with our own realities.
And none of this would be possible without the incredible commitment from BSB volunteers, who were present and engaged every step of the way. Thank you for everything that you do.”

“My time with Big Sky Bravery’s (TF 154) was truly one of the best experiences of my life. From the moment we arrived, the volunteers and supporters—great Americans in every sense—went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. Their dedication and genuine commitment to giving us an unforgettable week were evident in everything they did.
From fishing on Montana’s pristine waters to hiking through its breathtaking landscapes, I was able to experience everything the state has to offer while finally allowing myself to decompress from the constant stresses of serving in the SOF community. This time away gave me the space to reflect and recalibrate.
The experience didn’t just provide a break; it reshaped my perspective.
It helped me reprioritize the things in my life that I had pushed aside for far too long and gave me clarity about the next chapter as I prepare to retire from the service.
Big Sky Bravery provided more than a week of adventure—it gave me the tools and mindset to move forward with purpose.
Special thanks to Shane, Kevin, and Randy, and all of the donors who made this experience happen.”

“My time with Big Sky Bravery was nothing short of transformational.
As someone who has spent years immersed in the demands of deployments and the intensity of military operations, I didn’t realize how much I needed a moment to breathe—until I experienced the serenity and intentional fellowship offered through this program.
The landscapes of Montana were more than just beautiful—they were healing. The experiences afforded to me opened my eyes to a world of kindness, generosity, and natural wonder that we often overlook when we’re consumed by duty.
It was a reminder that there is still goodness out there, waiting to be embraced.
But what truly made this experience priceless was the fellowship. The volunteers and fellow recipients shared stories, struggles, and laughter that forged bonds deeper than I could have imagined. These weren’t just fleeting connections—they were the foundation of lasting relationships built on mutual respect, shared sacrifice, and genuine care.
Big Sky Bravery gave me more than a break from the battlefield—it gave me clarity, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose.
I left not only rejuvenated but also reminded of the beauty we fight to protect, and the strength found in the community. For that, I am forever grateful.”

“Strong Volunteer Integration and Engagement -- The seamless coordination between Big Sky Bravery staff and volunteers fostered an environment of trust and openness. Their genuine commitment to supporting service members created a space where recipients felt valued and understood. This level of engagement should be sustained to preserve the program’s authenticity and emotional impact.
Purposeful Fellowship and Peer Bonding -- The intentional design of shared experiences—whether through outdoor activities or informal discussions—cultivated deep connections among recipients. These bonds not only enhanced morale but also contributed to long-term peer support networks. Sustaining this fellowship model reinforces the program’s mission and strengthens its legacy.”
